Energy Efficiency

Different from most builders that talk about Energy Star™ windows and appliances, Orchard Knoll takes energy efficiency to the next level. All of our for sale developments are Energy Star™ rated and tested, all include high performance and environmentally friendly geothermal heating and cooling technology and we have recently begun installing on-demand, high efficiency Rinnai brand water heaters.

Energy Star™ testing and rating is not just a label but a two-stage, on site testing process conducted by independent engineering firms that are approved by Energy Star™ and National Grid. All ductwork is pressure tested to ensure tightness. Any leakage over a minimum threshold amount and the distribution system must be corrected. The house is then tested again upon completion by pressurizing the entire house and noting any problem areas. A HERS rating is then awarded which integrates the leakage testing with insulation values
(walls, windows and doors) and heating/cooling efficiencies. A typical home built to current building code is
rated 100. Our homes are typically rated from 51 to 59. This means that Orchard Knoll homes are, on average,
45% more energy efficient than a conventionally built new home.
